Woo-hoo!Being a beefcake is a true blessing. Not only does your body becomes a "crowdstopper", you also end up attracting most women. But wait, there's a downside ofall that brawn: poor immune system and an increasedappetite.
That's the conclusionof a new study.
According toWilliam Lassek, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania, who led the new study, such evolutionary costs could explain whymales of our species do not all look likeHe-Man.
1x1 polls

"In some respects I wassurprised at how big the costs were... something I hadn't anticipated," NewScientist quoted him, assaying.
Multifarious studies haveconcluded that ladies tend to prefer more toned men, and muscle-bound men tendto have more sexual partners than slendermen.
However, previous researchhas also suggested that musculature comes with a cost. Testosterone, a hormonethat promotes secondary muscle growth, suppresses the immune system of allanimals, including people.
Butno one examined both the positives and negatives of big muscles in a singlepopulation - up till now.
Inthe latest study, Lassek analysed data from more than 5000 men, aged 18 to 49.They participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, between 1988 and 1994.
Thebeefier the man the more sexual partners he had, Lassek confirmed.
In the same men, muscle massdid a better job of predicting caloric intake than body mass index (BMI), age,or activity levels. And revealed that hunky men going hungry moreoften.
Compared to skinnies, muscular men also tended to produce fewer infection-fighting white blood cellsand less of an important immune molecule called C-reactive protein, which helpsdestroy pathogens.
The studyhas been published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior.
